Anya Paintsil debuts a new solo exhibition in the UK, Allanol Always.
Titled Allanol Always, Paintsil continues her exploration of the Black female form through craft practices from childhood. Held at the Tŷ Pawb Art Gallery, Allanol Always references feelings of exclusion Paintsil experienced as a Black woman and ”offers a bold exploration of heritage, representation and identity,” the press release adds.
“Drawing inspiration from her childhood in North Wales, and her ancestral Fante tradition of figurative textiles,” Paintsil merges “rug making, appliqué and hand embroidery.” Each of these mediums is used to accurately portray the details within afro hairstyling on large scale portraits.
On view from July 11 to October 25, 2025, the solo exhibition was curated by independent curator Lewis Dalton Gilbert. He added, “It is a privilege to be collaborating with Anya on this deeply personal and transformative exhibition. Allanol Always marks a significant moment in her artistic journey, and the new body of work she is creating is both experimental and profound, weaving together her Welsh-Ghanaian heritage, folklore and craft traditions with a fearless exploration of the human body and its complexities.”
