Introducing: Oris x Cervo Volante 40mm

What We Know

Oris is back with the second edition of its collaboration with Cervo Volante, a Swiss company that creates high-quality leather accessories from sustainably sourced and tanned deer hides. This release underscores Oris’s commitment to sustainability, following initiatives such as its partnership with New York’s Billion Oyster Project, and further establishes the brand as one with an environmentally conscious mindset.

Normally, we don’t start with straps in these introductions, but since that is where the collaboration lives, it feels only right. Cervo Volante takes deer hides, a by-product of population control required by Swiss environmental authorities, and transforms them into durable and beautiful leather goods. In this case, it becomes a deep mahogany-brown strap. Each piece also arrives with a Cervo Volante travel pouch made from the same leather, tying the collaboration together.

The watch itself is a 40mm variant of the Big Crown Pointer Date, distinguished by details inspired by the outdoors. The classic pointer-date hand is tipped in forest green, while the dial is a gradient in rich burnt maple tones.

Inside is Oris’s Calibre 754, a Sellita-based automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve. The watch is water-resistant to 50 meters and, as always with Oris, designed with robust everyday wear in mind.

I am impressed with Oris’s continued commitment to partnering with organizations that address sustainability in authentic ways, integrating those missions directly into their products. On the surface, deer population regulation and watchmaking may not belong in the same sentence, but Oris has found a way to connect the two in a manner that feels natural and aligns nicely with the Pointer Date as a model, the brand’s continued focus on sustainability, and both brands’ Swiss heritage. 

The strap is the soul of this collaboration, and its rich brown tone adds warmth and character to the watch. Paired with the burnt maple dial and green-tipped pointer hand, the design feels especially suited to autumn — evoking warmth, both in the form of leaves changing and of a winter’s fire. This isn’t just a seasonal tweak of the Big Crown Pointer Date — it’s Oris doubling down on its ethos, creating a watch with both commercial and environmental appeal.
