What We Know
As the first year of TAG Heuer’s repeat stint as the official timekeeping partner of F1 comes to a close, the brand is marking the moment with a tribute to Ayrton Senna. The well-known Brazilian driver, who became a superstar on the circuit over three decades ago, won three Formula 1 World Championships (1988, 1990, 1991) before his tragic death in 1994. These two new releases continue TAG Heuer’s long-running Senna series—a partnership that has produced special-edition chronographs since 1994—with the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna 44mm and 43mm.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna 44mm
Both watches feature a green and yellow color scheme, referencing Senna’s Brazilian nationality, with the “SENNA” name, and the 44mm model has an overt yellow “S” logo on a sub-dial. The 44mm also features a yellow lacquered crown and chronograph accents, while the 43mm uses a black DLC-coated crown and pushers. Each has a black sunray-brushed dial, but the sub-dial layouts differ.
The 44mm model is automatic, powered by Calibre 16. It features a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, a 12-hour chronograph counter at 6 o’clock in Brazilian-flag colors, and running seconds with the yellow “S” logo at 9 o’clock. The case is made of grade-2 titanium with a black DLC finish and features a forged-carbon tachymeter bezel. It comes on a yellow rubber strap with a black DLC pin buckle, is water-resistant to 200m, and has a caseback engraving of Senna’s helmeted eyes.

The 43mm model uses a quartz chronograph movement. It includes a 1/10th-second counter at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, and running seconds at 3 o’clock. The case is stainless steel with a black aluminum tachymeter bezel and the Senna markings. It’s fitted on a stainless-steel S/EL bracelet—the style Senna wore during his TAG Heuer ambassadorship—with a folding clasp, double safety push-buttons, and a pilot extension.

Both models are available as of today, and each comes with Senna-specific caseback engravings and packaging in his helmet colors. The 43mm model is limited to 3,000 pieces and priced at 2,550 CHF; the 44mm Calibre 16 version is priced at 5,550 CHF and is not limited.
What We Think
As the newest members of TAG Heuer’s Senna collection, these models follow a familiar blueprint: the Senna-marked bezel, racing chronograph layouts, and two movement options, just as we’ve seen in previous releases. Given Senna’s nationality—and the fact that these watches are launching just days ahead of the São Paulo Grand Prix—the green and yellow color choice makes sense. Still, when I think of Senna, the red and white of his McLaren era are the colors I associate with him most. Thus, I still prefer the 2022 red-dial Formula 1 Senna edition—if I’m getting a watch tied to Senna, it just has to be red.
The partnership has spanned over three decades, with Senna officially joining TAG Heuer as an ambassador in 1993 for the 1994 season, choosing the TAG Heuer S/EL chronograph as his daily watch. This makes the bracelet choice on the 43mm model feel like the most authentic link to him. It’s also my favorite of the two.
At the end of the day, though, it’s nice to see a continuation of Senna’s legacy, and TAG deserves credit for keeping one of their greatest partnerships alive in a way that still feels modern for F1 and Senna fans.
