Introducing: The Ming 37.11 Odyssey, A Titanium Diver GMT

Editor’s pick — Accessory quick take: key highlight (movement/specs for watches, materials/finish, limited run, pricing tier) in 1–2 lines.

What We Know

A few weeks ago, we reported on Ming’s announcement of the brand’s 3D-printed titanium mesh bracelet. It was a remarkable moment, not just because we normally don’t cover a strap/bracelet release on its own, but because the bracelet itself was so well received. But if you were like me and thinking to yourself, “I wonder what watch it might go best with,” this is probably the best answer yet. Ming’s new 37.11 “Odyssey” Diver GMT features a brushed Grade 2 titanium case that pairs well with the Grade 5 titanium mesh bracelet, but it’s more than just a vehicle for a cool strap.

Yes, it’s not all about the bracelet. In fact, the 37.11 “Odyssey” is also available on Ming’s FKM rubber strap or their new Grade 2 titanium Universal Bracelet design (which I have in steel on my own Ming). But the watch itself has 300m of water resistance and yet weighs under 42 grams. The case measures 38mm by 12.6mm, with a 44.5mm lug-to-lug. Inside the case is a Sellita for Ming SW330.M2 automatic GMT “caller” movement (with independently adjustable GMT hand) with hacking seconds and a 50-hour power reserve. The movement features an anthracite skeletonized mainplate, bridges, and rotor, all customized by Sellita for Ming.

Just as the flying blade lugs are quintessential parts of Ming design, so too is the interesting dial. The brand has opted for a smoked sapphire main dial, featuring an inner rotating, bi-directional, clickable 24-hour bezel with blue and orange-emitting Super-LumiNova X1 indices (color-coded for day/night indication).

The watch features domed sapphire crystals on both the front and rear, with a double-sided antireflective coating. The top crystal also features Ming’s Polar White luminous hour indices. The dual crowns (one for the time, one for the bezel) also feature blue-emitting Super-LumiNova X1 lume. There’s even a warning indicator on the screw-down crown at 2 o’clock so you know if it’s not locked down for water resistance.

Speaking of water resistance, this GMT has plenty. As a successor to the GPHG-winning 37.09 “Bluefin,” this watch comes correct with 300m of protection. The watch is available from retailers and the brand’s website starting November 11 at 8 AM EST, priced at CHF 4,950 on a rubber strap, CHF 5,500 on a Grade 2 Titanium Universal Bracelet, and CHF 5,950 on the new Grade 5 Titanium Polymesh.

What We Think

This is obviously a more utilitarian release from Ming than some of their extreme dials or cases of late. That said, it’s the best-looking GMT the brand has released since the 17.03 variants. The GMT hand is not necessarily the most legible, however, as someone who “dailies” a GMT, I wouldn’t say that I am actively and frequently looking for the GMT hand. I may not be the rule, but I suspect most people use it on occasion more than anything. The ability for the stacked sapphire dials to “invert” also makes the hands stand out when needed. The 300m of water resistance and ability to work well with any of the strap options, well, that’s all just a great cherry on top.
