Introducing: The Tudor Ranger, Now In 36 Millimeters And With A New ‘Dune’ White Dial

Editor’s pick — Accessory quick take: key highlight (movement/specs for watches, materials/finish, limited run, pricing tier) in 1–2 lines.

What We Know

The Tudor Ranger is the no-nonsense, get-the-job-done field watch in the Tudor brand universe. It proved its worth, or a similar-looking Tudor Oyster Prince did, during the British North Greenland Expedition back in the early 1950s, and the Ranger, in a 34 millimeter diameter, was a big part of the lineup in the decades after. The Rolex sister brand first brought the Ranger back with a very heritage-inspired 41-millimeter version in 2014. Then, in 2022, to mark the 70th anniversary of the BNGE, it introduced a 39-millimeter version that dropped the faux lume of the 2014 launch. Today, Tudor is further refining the Ranger with a new 36-millimeter version and a fresh, creamy white dial the brand calls ‘Dune,’ which is certainly the most universally wearable and handsome iteration of the model in some time, doubling down on utility. The new ‘Dune’ dial color is also available in 39 millimeters.

The new Ranger ‘Dune’ offers the same oversized Arabic numerals at 12 o’clock, 3, 6, and 9 that the model is known for. But the white dial version doesn’t lume the black numbers. Rather, there are lume plots beside them. That’s one of the major changes compared to other versions of Tudor’s expedition watch, which is linked to the Dakar Rally endurance race. The handset, with a red-tipped seconds hand, remains the same.

The brushed steel case is in 316L stainless steel and offers 100 meters of water resistance, making it a true do-it-all timepiece. Inside the new, smaller case is the in-house-manufactured MT5400 movement, COSC-certified, and offering a 70-hour power reserve to get you through the weekend.

The watch is available on a brushed steel bracelet with Tudor’s T-fit adjustment system or a fabric strap, priced at $3,700 on the bracelet and $3,350 on the fabric strap.

What We Think

The Ranger has long been a classic in the Tudor pantheon, but previous reissued versions never hit the way the flagship Black Bay line has. The new, smaller case size, particularly the white dial, seems to embody the best of Tudor’s modern, robust watchmaking while coming closest in look and feel to the vintage Ranger. Priced under $4,000, the new Ranger gives few reasons not to get out there and take it on some adventures in a place far off the beaten track. Range on.
