Introducing: The Autodromo Mobil 1 Group B Pegasus Edition

Editor’s pick — Accessory quick take: key highlight (movement/specs for watches, materials/finish, limited run, pricing tier) in 1–2 lines.

What We Know

If you’re like me, you love a good hit of nostalgia. Watches, cars (the Lamborghini Countach, anyone?), music (Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane”); a lot of the greats—heck, even the “greats because they’re not so great”—came out of the 1980s. You know what else did? The “so good it’s too dangerous to exist” WRC rally series Group B, for which car manufacturers raced to put out some of the craziest cars ever made, many of which didn’t ever race because the series was cancelled. That’s why we didn’t get to see the Lamborghini Countach LP5000S run Group B (there weren’t enough to make it homologated), or the RS200 Evo, and even the Ferrari 288 GTO. But what we did get from the era was the solidification of the fact that blacked-out watches are never not cool. Autodromo and Mobil 1 have teamed up (again) to remind you of that fact.

Autodromo Mobil 1 Group B Pegasus Edition

The Autodromo x Mobil 1 Group B Pegasus Edition is a black DLC-coated stainless steel case around a titanium core. The watch measures 39mm by 9.9mm thick with an integrated bracelet with a butterfly deployant clasp. The dial is a high-contrast black inspired by vintage racing tachometers. The hands and dial are luminous, as are the red accents for the Mobil 1 Pegasus logo and red minute track on the grey rehaut.

In addition to the other red accents mentioned, the minute hand has a red tip. All of this unifying aesthetic caps off a watch powered by the Miyota 9015 automatic movement. While the brand didn’t share details, that generally indicates a 42-hour power reserve at 4 Hz. The watch is limited to 70 pieces and priced at $995, available only on Autodromo.com.

What We Think

This is a cool throwback to cap off the year for Autodromo. TanTan made a strong case for the return and appreciation of the Monoposto, following the first collaboration between the two brands earlier this year. This, however, is more my speed. It reminds me a bit of the time-only Porsche Design watches, like the Ocean 2000 (which was the point, I’m sure), but with a more automotive theme. The side profile of the watch looks far slimmer than the stated 9.9mm, and at the price, it feels like an attractive buy despite the somewhat low-grade movement.
