Editor’s pick — Accessory quick take: key highlight (movement/specs for watches, materials/finish, limited run, pricing tier) in 1–2 lines.
What We Know
Back in 2023, TAG Heuer got an infusion of energy and sparked significant interest and excitement with the launch of its new 39mm Carrera Chronograph “Glassbox” design. With an automatic movement, a shaped dial, and a domed, curved crystal that accentuated the tachymeter flange, the watch was an evolution that referenced the past without being stuck in it. Now the design is even more modern—upsized to 41mm and dropping the date.

Vintage Carreras largely measured 36mm, so 39mm was already a slight modernization. But size is a highly personal and divisive topic, so the increase to a 41mm (14.17mm thick) stainless steel case size is sure to be a welcome option for some buyers. The larger size also alters the balance, as the case thickness remains the same.
But it’s more than just a size change. The design drops the other divisive feature: the date. Now the dials, in blue, teal green, or black with a circular brushed finish (the latter with a red outer ring), have no date window but retain the tachymeter at the edge, with running seconds, 30-minute, and 12-hour counters. The cases, meanwhile, are still faceted, with brushed sides.

The dial still has rhodium-plated, faceted, polished hands and hour markers, with Super-LumiNova on the hands. Inside the case is a modified version of the same movement in the previous release. The Calibre TH20-01 has the same 80-hour power reserve, runs at 4Hz, is automatic-winding, and is viewable through the display caseback, protected by 100m of water resistance.

If you’ve been waiting for an up-sized version of the Carrera Chronograph, the new 41mm versions are available now, and come on 7-link stainless steel bracelets with butterfly clasps, retailing for $7,950.
What We Think
A 2mm size increase still doesn’t sound like a lot, even after handling hundreds of watches in my time. But in reality, I’m sure it makes a decent difference. I’ve never found the 39mm Glassbox chronographs to be too small on my 7.25″ wrist, but I’m less sensitive to size (or how it looks on me) than others. Whether a larger version would wear or look better on me remains to be seen, and I’m curious to check it out. But I’m sure it will be a great debate until everyone gets to try it for themselves. One thing I definitely feel confident about already? I’m excited to see a Carrera without a date.
