Editor’s pick — Accessory quick take: key highlight (movement/specs for watches, materials/finish, limited run, pricing tier) in 1–2 lines.
What We Know
It’s a tale as old as… well, I guess only a few years or as long as the M.A.D.Edition watches have been a thing. People have applied and applied and applied for the raffles for the M.A.D.1, M.A.D.1S, and M.A.D.2 (the affordable and yet surprisingly creative offerings from the subsidiary of MB&F), and yet still haven’t been able to get one. That was, in fact, what the M.A.D.1 ‘Lucky Clover’ was meant to fix: it was a watch available to everyone who had entered every raffle to this point and never gotten one of the thousands of watches.

The idea is back now with the M.A.D.2 series, which was designed by Eric Giroud and inspired by his love of 1990s club culture and turntables. With a spinning rotor disc visible from the front and back, the M.A.D.2 REDemption, with a red dial plate and black rotor, black jumping hour, and trailing-minute disc, is available to “loyal but unlucky (until now) fans of the brand who have participated in at least four previous raffles without ever winning.” It’s complemented by a new M.A.D.2 R&B (red and black, not Sade and Usher) with a black dial plate that looks like a classic vinyl pressing and red discs for the time display.

These make up the fourth and fifth M.A.D.2 watches since the model’s launch just over a year ago. The 316L stainless steel case measures 42mm by 12.3mm with a 30m water resistance. Both the top and bottom sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on both the front and back. The watches are fitted to a stealthy midnight black strap with a steel folding buckle. But the kicker for the unlucky ones (now turned lucky) that get the REDemption, they’ll find it’s engraved on the back with, “They say I’m stubborn, I’d say persistent.”

The M.A.D.2 R&B (Red & Black) and REDemption is powered by the Swiss-made Manufacture La Joux-Perret caliber G101 with a 4Hz beat rate and 64 hours of power reserve. The entire thing is capped by a module made by MB&F that powers the creative display. The movement is much smaller than the case, so the extended rotor appears as a spinning disc, giving the impression of a spinning turntable. There is a detailing of the front’s indices carried over to the crown.

The M.A.D.2 R&B will be available via raffle, with applications open from April 14th to April 20th and selections made by random draw, supervised by a bailiff, with 1,500 pieces available. The M.A.D.2 REDemption is available to anyone who has applied at least four times; those people will not need to go through a raffle. They will be contacted, and if they wish to acquire the piece, they will have direct access to it. The price for each is CHF 2,900, and you can participate in the raffle here.
What We Think

Oh, happy day. It’s time for the dedicated people who have been unlucky in love, er, rather in loving the M.A.D.2, to finally find their soul watch. The M.A.D. series of watches is incredibly fun, and we’ve covered them extensively (here, but also here, and maybe here if you didn’t like the first two), so there’s not much more to say. The REDemption is a bit bold for me, but if you want a M.A.D.Edition watch, color-be-damned, then beggars can’t be choosers. You’d be hard-pressed to go wrong with either.
